Single Use Plastic Ban.

There is always confusion about single use plastic ban. Being an entrepreneur I had been asked what type of single use plastic is banned by Govt. So I think to make it clear what type single use plastic is banned. 

There is always problem with waste disposable plastic. Problem includes

1.       Accumulation of plastic in Land fills, water bodies,

2.       Burning such waste in open environment causes various diseases in humans and animals.

3.       Clogging drains and Nallas causing flood in urban Cities

4.       Micro plastic are having negative impacts on fish diversity and fisheries activity.

5.       Leaching of chemical from plastic affecting fertility of soil.

To avoid such incident and problems, maharastra Govt has banned below listed of single use plastic.

v  Manufacture, usage, transport, distribution, wholesale & retail sale and storage, import of the plastic bags with handle and without handle.

v  The disposable products manufactured from plastic & Thermocol (polystyrene). for example single use disposable dish, cups, plates, glasses, fork, bowl, container, disposable dish/ bowl used for packaging food in hotels, spoon, straw, non-woven polypropylene bags, cups/ pouches to store liquid, packaging with plastic to wrap or store the products, packaging of food items and food grain material etc.

v  There will be ban in whole state for use of plastic and Thermocol for decoration purpose.

 

Below Items are exempted for the ban.

ü  Plastic bags or plastic used for packaging of medicine.

ü  Only compostable plastic bags or material used for plant nurseries, horticulture, agriculture, handling of solid waste.

ü  To manufacture plastic and plastic bags for export purpose only in permitted zone.

ü  The plastic cover / plastic to wrap the material at the manufacturing stage or is an integral part of manufacturing.

ü  Food grade virgin plastic bags not less than 50 micron thickness used for packaging of milk.

ü  PET or PETE bottles made up of high quality food grade virgin Bisphenol-A free material having liquid holding capacity not less than 0.5 liters and printed on it with predefined buy back price shall be allowed.
